Smithfield BESS

Lai Group is proud to support the Smithfield Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), a major infrastructure project that has been recognised as a State Significant Development in New South Wales. This initiative highlights Lai Group’s ongoing commitment to advancing Australia’s renewable energy capabilities and contributing to a more sustainable future.

The 65 MW / 130 MWh BESS is strategically located near Sydney on traditional Darug land and is being developed in conjunction with Iberdrola Australia’s existing gas peaker plant. This co-location will enhance energy reliability, support grid stability, and help integrate more renewable energy into the electricity network.

 

Key Contributions by Lai Group

  • Design and manufacture of nine custom-engineered low-voltage switchboards.​
  • Integration of these switchboards adjacent to a 10 MVA transformer​
  • Fabrication of a robust transformer skid frame​
  • Provision of a fully compliant bunding system
