The 4.8-kilometre Legacy Way tunnel required a fire-safe power distribution solution, leading to the use of dry-type transformers to reduce fire risk. Space constraints meant each transformer was installed in narrow cross passage tunnels, where compact design was essential. Each transformer fed two identical main switchboards, increasing the number of cable terminations fourfold.
Lai Switchboards worked closely with the electrical installer to design and manufacture custom bus bars and cable connections to handle the large cable volumes. This solution allowed for clean, efficient terminations and significantly reduced on-site labour, saving hundreds of man-hours.
